Social media has given humans a new way to communicate with each other. The transfer of ideas, interests, expressions and informations has been greatly enhanced by the advent of social media. Nowhere in human history have we shared more information about ourselves and everything around us and that information made available for everyone to see. People who are born into the internet or those who grew up with it have been constantly bombarded with the technology and constant media associated with it. Many children these days are one of the biggest users of social media. They consume social media applications and the content in it in an astounding pace. Social media with all of its features and benefits doesn't come without any drawbacks however. As much as social media is a force for good and innovation, any technology can be used for bad purposes.

Technology that contains information about anyone and that is readily available sounds like a bad idea, however that is exactly what social media is. It is an information hub in which anyone with the correct permissions has access to the information posted in it. People who have the ill intent of abusing social media have a great amount of resources and information on someone if they are for example a friend of the user on social media. Facebook is basically an online diary full of pictures and information about someone. Someone with ill intent can abuse all of this information readily availabe at their hands by befriending the account holder. Predators can take advantage of a child's carelessness and naive mentality and use it to their advantage. Pictures, locations and other type of private information can fall into the wrong hands if children are not careful. Children need to be taught very well about the dangers of the internet and the dangers of certain posts they make available to the internet.

  1. You've made many great points, I never even considered how far the scope of sharing goes when put in context of human history. In this era we need to be vigilant and teach everyone how to safely surf the web. We need to learn what is safe and unsafe to share online.

  2. I believe that social media attracts more the younger people and somehow made a wider gap between older and younger generations. It changed the way we learn, nowadays we would rather Google the works of literature than work harder and read the actual books. On the other hand, Social media connects people with each other, even though sometimes children interact with strangers, and this could be rather dangerous. This strangers usually create a persona just to get those children to trust them and even give personal information.
