Social Media and Obama

Look to the left and to the right, everyone is on their phones. What exactly are they doing on their phones? Some might say games, some might say texting but a better and more guaranteed answer is social media. Social media has dominated the world, our attention and our time. Everyone uses social media and even our previous President used it and used it effectively. Obama utilized the fact that everyone uses social media and that it is a platform that is able to connect him with all of his voters.

President Obama's website, MYBO, for short was an effective campaigning tool in 2008. For example, through the usage of the website, he was able to raise tremendous amount of money for his campaign. Even more impressive is he used social media to raise an army of voters and supporters who helped him carry out campaigns. With how the website was set up, people could go online and find the names of supporters nearby and encourage them to act or vote for Obama. The response was tremendous and it greatly enhanced Obama's chances of winning not only the primary but also the presidency.

Filter Bubbles

When you search an article on google, especially on hot topics with opposing views, I can guarantee our results may not look exactly the same. Why is that? Well, through the usage of algorithms and the likes, many search engines "filter" our search depending on what we like. It gives us results that reflect our past searches, it gives us results on ideas and articles that share the same views as us. This is the great "filter bubble" of social media and search engines.
